The NYRA NYC March Meetup
NYRA NYC was out in force at a Youth Rights Meetup on Monday March 10th at Whole Foods on Bowery. It was a great turnout with some new faces, a visit from key members of NYRA national (who drove all the way up from DC!), and the always fantastic presence of leading members of Cafety.
The biggest benefit of holding these meetups on a now regular basis (we hope) is how they bring together the many youth rights supporters that are already active in NYC, but generally not working together, to talk and plot and scheme. What a lot of us have in common is a deep-seated personal stake in these issues and we need to continue getting together to take advantage of all of our experiences. Photos from the meetup are here; unfortunately there were some problems when we were transferring the pictures from our camera so not all photos are available.
The next step will be to create new materials — like that pretty new youth rights definition sticker — so we can begin recruiting straight away, especially in high schools. We will also go to leading people from other NYRA chapters and our friends at other seasoned organizations for guidance on grant writing, and advice on making NYRA NYC stronger and more active. The next meetup is scheduled for Monday, April 14th with more details to be announced soon.
